As part of its commitment to deepening democratic accountability and active citizenship, ReadyToLeadAfrica (RTLA) implemented the FollowThePromises (FTP) training across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. The training was held in Gombe, Plateau, Sokoto, Akwa Ibom, Ekiti, and Ebonyi States, equipping young citizens and civic actors with the tools and knowledge to track political promises and demand good governance from elected leaders.

FollowThePromises is a civic accountability initiative that empowers citizens—particularly youth—to monitor campaign promises, track public service delivery, and strengthen participatory democracy at the grassroots and national levels. The training focused on building practical skills in civic tech, data collection, policy engagement, and digital advocacy.

Training Objectives:

  • Equip participants with tools to track political promises and evaluate performance.

  • Enhance the capacity of youth leaders to engage in policy monitoring and civic engagement.

  • Promote data-driven accountability using tech-enabled platforms.

  • Strengthen local networks for governance tracking and citizen reporting.

Impact and Reach:

The training reached over 180 youth leaders, civil society representatives, and community influencers across the six states, creating a new wave of accountability champions committed to monitoring governance outcomes in their regions.

With these trainings, RTLA is laying the foundation for a more responsive and people-driven democracy, ensuring that elected leaders are held accountable to the promises they make before and after elections.
