The Electoral Integrity Protection, Democratic Participation and Accountability Project (EIP-DPAP) is a comprehensive, multi-phase civic engagement initiative of ReadyToLeadAfrica (RTLA) designed to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic process across the entire electoral cycle.
From promoting peaceful elections to ensuring post-election accountability, EIP-DPAP represents RTLA’s commitment to building an inclusive, transparent, and participatory democratic culture driven by youth leadership and civic technology.
EIP-DPAP is structured into three strategic tiers:
1. YAEVA – Youth Against Electoral Violence Accord
Launched ahead of the 2023 Presidential Election, YAEVA is a nationwide youth-led peace initiative aimed at reducing electoral violence and mobilizing young Nigerians to commit to peaceful participation in the electoral process. It convened political actors, youth organizations, and candidates to sign a peace accord and pledge against incitement, hate speech, and violent mobilization.
Objective:
To promote peaceful elections and nonviolent civic engagement through youth-led advocacy.
2. FTR – FollowTheResult
As the second tier of EIP-DPAP, FollowTheResult served as RTLA’s election observation and citizen reporting platform during the 2023 Presidential, Governorship, and Off-Cycle Elections. It enabled real-time documentation of voting processes, incidents, and electoral irregularities via a network of youth observers and tech volunteers.
Objective:
To safeguard electoral integrity through grassroots observation, digital reporting, and data transparency.
3. FTP – FollowThePromises
The third tier of the project, FollowThePromises, focuses on post-election governance accountability. This web platform and mobile app allow citizens to track, evaluate, and report on the fulfillment of campaign promises made by elected officials. It bridges the gap between elections and governance, ensuring elected leaders remain answerable to the people.
Objective:
To strengthen political accountability and citizen participation beyond election day through civic tech.
